Jen Lee's week 32 (4 - 11 oct 2010)

Hey folks,

sorry to have gone MIA for a bit...was back in singapore and malaysia so thought I would give myself a "break" from the e-journaling - after all, it's suppose to chronicle my time in australia so i rationalised that I'm not really skiving :P

on a more serious note though, it's been a pretty tough week since i got back last Monday...being home was wonderful, meeting friends, eating home-cooked food, playing with my nieces...but upon returning, i realised how quickly my brain had switched off from all things academic, so much so that when i had to finish that final essay (worth 45% of my grade, i wrote about it in my last update) - my mental engine just would not start!

my grand plan of finishing the essay BEFORE i left for home was a joke...and i did not finish it by the end of my trip either! partly because i had no internet whilst in malaysia (due to change of accommodation), but mostly because my heart was just not in it lah.

and my brain continued to be on holiday even after I got back here...i was stumped at how hard it was to write that essay e.g. the way I was wording things was too casual, inappropriate for academic writing etc.

Thank God, I finally managed to finish - after a couple nights spent in front of the computer until the wee hours of the morning :(

Unfortunately, the extra time it took me to do this essay meant that i had less time to do my next assignment for another class - so I had to ask for extension too :( not a good pattern to take up, so i resolve to not ask for any more extensions after this.

Pls pray that i will be able to get through the next month - from now until 8 Nov, i have a whopping SEVEN assignments to hand up! I really need focus and efficiency and a positive spirit even in the midst of so much work...

Here are my deadlines so you can help me to pray:
1. short essay for public health class - due 13 oct
2. presentation for infocomm technology (ICT) and devt class - 19 oct
3. video documentary on homelessness and mental illness - 25 oct (finishing filming this weekend, need to edit, which may take a really long time)
4. reflective essay on the video 29 oct
5. long essay for public health class - due on same day as video essay :[
6. first essay for ICT class - 1 Nov
7. second essay for ICT class - 8 Nov

in light of the above, these weekly updates may cease for a bit...if i have any writers' juice left in me to write, i will be sure to let u know how i'm doing :P

but enough about the somewhat scary future - here are some things that I'm thankful for in the past 3 weeks since my last update on 21 sept (each item has a couple photos to illustrate :)

1. Spending time with my two Singaporean nieces - Joy Lynn (she turned 3 in sept) and Jill Lyanne (she was born in May while I was away) - yes they have the same initials as me! I knew I was going to miss them, so i photographed and video-ed them like mad - even when they were taking naps!

2. Meeting up with relatives in Malaysia during my cousin's wedding :)

3. Hanging out with church friends/colleagues, having lunch/dinner and funny conversations, eating yoghurt and icecream (based on a dream I had of a colleague promoting a coneful of icecream to me - the dream became reality :) I must say cold dessert is a necessity in hot singapore! Thanks Sarah and Thanks Zubby for the cool dates :)

4. Meals with family were special too, breakfast with dad, my mum's chicken rice dinner :)

5. Pampering myself with pedicure (probably my last chance to have pedicure by Irene, this lady from China who works near the news centre, she's going back to her country at the end of this year), did it with a friend and we compared toes afterwards :) oh and also got facial, massage and reflexology...mm mm...no wonder i was in no mood to do any school work!

6. Back in Brisbane, the flowers are coming out full force (purple jacaranda trees are so gorgeous - see pic). these few days it has been raining like mad, but when the weather is better, I hope to take some time to take in the wonders of spring :)

7. I went diving last sat...it was supposed to be the flinders reef trip that I organised specifically because I wanted to have a chance to see whales, but it was not to be. The sea condition was too rough for us to take the boat out, so in the end, we did a shore dive at Gold Coast Seaway. It was still fun, pics and video on my facebook profile if u'r interested :) http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=238943&id=544591952&l=6206ebeca1 and http://www.facebook.com/#!/video/?id=544591952 (if the 2nd link doesn't work, just go to my FB profile and look under my videos).

okie doke, that's all from me for now.....

one more prayer request: I am considering moving to a much cheaper place, pls pray that I can work things out clearly with the head tenant, in terms of bond agreement etc. According to my colleague who is living there now, the subletting arrangement is quite informal. I want to make sure it's all legal if I'm going to live there. I am meeting the head tenant on Wed.

Would appreciate your prayers :)
Thank you!

Take care and God bless,
jen lee
