Jen Lee's 33rd-37th weeks (12 Oct - 17 Nov, 2010)
hey folks,
it's been over 5 weeks since i last wrote...hope you have all been well....
thank you to those of you who have told me that you missed my updates...hehe, i needed quite a bit of impetus to get back to writing... it's so easy to get lazy :P
I finished all my assignments last Tuesday...but it has taken a week to feel like I could actually sit in front of a computer to write out anything substantial...
Can't reallly blame me lah...for about 2-3 weeks I was pretty much sleeping at my table most of the nights...with my head down next to my lap top...because:
1. I was too tired to get upstairs to my bed
2. My bed was too comfortable and I was afraid I would sleep too long --> not finish my work on time
3. My study table was just comfortable enough for me to sleep a few hours, and uncomfortable enough that I would wake up to do work.
Anyway...it's all behind me now, woo hoo!!! Thank you so much for your prayers...God has truly sustained me and I am very very grateful.
So here are some highlights of the past month...
1. Finishing my video project: My 10-min documentary, entitled "Un-Settled: Homelessness and Mental Illness", was quite well-received! It was screened in the first week of November and the psychologist that I interviewed for it said she liked it :)
Also happy that quite a few of my friends came for the screening despite their busy exam-prep schedules. Photo of my lecturer Marian (centre) and Daniela, my fellow Communications Masters student who told me about the video course so I could join her to take it as an elective.

My piece was the fourth video to be screened, it was funny how my heartrate suddenly picked up between the end credits of the 3rd piece and my opening. I hope to put it up on Youtube sometime in future, currently checking with Stepping Stone (the mental health organisation that I worked with for the docu) whether it's ok. Will keep y'all updated if you are interested to watch it :)
2. Watching one of my video classmates in a Shakespeare play (Richard III): Ben and the rest of the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble were absolutely first-rate. June, my lifegroup sister, went with me and she has lots of experience in drama etc and she agrees with me. I find it so amazing that they can memorise those complex lines, express them so well, along with choreography and singing. Going for the play was my treat for finishing my video project - I felt so enriched afterwards :)
I am such a fan of Ben - I got him to sign my programme booklet so that I can maybe sell it when he gets famous in future :) I've attached a photo of the two of us, Ben played Duke of Birmingham.

3. Attended my first wedding in Australia: The couple, Rayson and Shin Yee, are leaders in the Ipswich church planting effort. I met them when I attended their lifegroup and even though I didn't interact with them much after that, the warmth of their relationship was always evident. It was an honour to be invited to their wedding and it was the sweetest wedding ever. The two of them sang a duet as she was walking down the aisle, it was amazing that they could keep their voices even and everything. And it's not like they are the unfeeling sort...later on, when they were sharing how God worked in their lives etc, they were both tearing aplenty (rayson more than Shin Yee - good for him!).
If you see the photo of the two of their silhouttes (from their wedding shoot), you can see the shape of the cross in the space between them. Truly, the sacrificial love of Jesus is at the centre of their relationship and it is wonderful to witness.

I was very blessed by their video testimony, which they showed in the foreground while the background was the usual "the way we were" photo montage. Individually, they committed themselves to a solid relationship with God...Shin Yee, for example, pledged not to date anyone for 5 years. For their coming together, they waited for God's timing - I must admit this is not an easy thing to do. I am someone who develops crushes easily and I have often been frustrated at my wayward heart. But God tells me that He is shaping me to be a diamond on His sceptre...
I had the vision of a diamond during service, at the same time someone went to the front to talk about the king in Esther extending the sceptre to show his favour)...I felt God wanted me to know that He not only wants me to enjoy His favour but to be the symbol of His favour to those around me, the diamond on the sceptre. It all sounds great, but then I remember...if a diamond wants to be brilliant, it has to be cut. the more cuts a diamond has, the more brilliant it is.
My struggles with myself, especially my thoughts and emotions, that is the cutting for me...please pray with me that I will trust Him with the process - because above all, I want to shine for Him.
ok...I've written quite a bit....there's still a lot to share but maybe I will leave it to next time...
For now I will wrap up with some prayer requests:
1. Mission Trip to Hobart, Tasmania 22-30 Nov: I'm going with six others from my lifegroup. We're doing to be partnering with Hope Hobart church-planters - running an evangelistic meeting, Sunday service, sharing the gospel on the streets. Please pray for protection and Spirit's empowerment in all things. We hope to see 7 salvations and 7 miracles (healing etc).
2. Moving to St Lucia to be nearer school: I have found a good place to stay. Please pray that someone will take over my room by 1 jan so that I don't have to pay double rent. My lease only ends 31 jan, but the place in St Lucia will be vacated be end Dec. It is apparently not easy to rent out a place in Jan, but with God nothing is impossible, amen? :)
3. Content manager for my church's community centre project: I have not done this before and I am a bit overwhelmed because there is a lot of material to cover. I believe the community centre will be a place for God's light to shine. Please pray I will have a clear idea of how to organise material on the web so that people will be informed and inspired to join the building effort.
Alrighty...thank you all for reading. Feel free to share prayer requests so I can pray for you too.
Take care and God bless,
jen lee
